World Cup Groups
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia will be the 21st edition of the World Cup. This edition of the event will be held in Russia between June 14 and July 15, 2018, being the first time that country organizes the championship.
Choice of host country
FIFA decided that the 2018 FIFA World Cup venue was chosen in conjunction with that of 2022, on 2 December 2010 at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the organization, held in the city of Zurich, Switzerland.
According to the continental rotation system implemented by FIFA, member associations or associations associated with CAF and CONMEBOL were not allowed to participate in this candidature. Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Spain, Portugal, the United States and Qatar.3 Finally, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Qatar and the United States United States withdrew a few months before the decision to focus on the 2022 election.
The vote was held in Zürich on December 2, 2010. In the first round, England reached two votes, Netherlands-Belgium scored four, Spain-Portugal reached seven and Russia rose to nine. Having failed to reach the necessary majority (twelve), England was eliminated for being the candidate with less support and a second round was necessary. Here, Russia obtained thirteen on the seven that received the Iberian pair and the two that received the candidacy Belgium-Netherlands.
After the election, Vladimir Putin, the then Russian prime minister, assured that "Russia 2018 will be fantastic" and projected the construction of new stadiums and the presence of "the highest quality regulations". For his part, Blatter made the protocol trip to the country selected and assured "that there will be wonderful cooperation between FIFA and Russia."
Group Raffle for the Soccer World Cup Russia 2018
The eight groups of the 2018 World Cup will be drawn on December 1 of this year. The event will be held at the Moscow Kremlin State Palace six months before the start of the tournament, as confirmed by FIFA.
The stage where the draw will take place is a well-known concert center where renowned artists such as Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo have paddled, and even the Circus del Sol used it for some of its functions.
By that date will be known the 32 selections classified to the world-wide championship, that will begin the 14 of June of 2018 in the Luzhnik stadium of the Russian capital. The only team that has secured, so far, their participation in the World Cup is the national team, the rest of the countries are fighting in the qualifiers of each of their confederations.
How many are classified by each continent?
Africa: Five Places.
Asia: Four places and one team will play repechaje before Central America.
Europe: 14 places, one was already delivered to Russia.
Central America: Three direct places and a selection to play against Africa.
Oceania: Only a place to play repechaje against South America.
South America: Four direct places and one for repechaje before Oceania.
